I recently discovered the beauty of a twist out, it’s not that I didn’t like them before, it’s just that now I finally understand and love this natural style. Twist out allows me to save tons of time in the morning, specially those when I have to get up and go. Twist outs are the perfect technique to achieve the perfect natural hair side updo, as it helps me to manage my hair better than when it is at its natural curly stage (wash and go).
The key to a great side updo like this one is to do your twist to the side that you want your final style to be. This will minimize the manipulation and avoid pulling and knots trying to set your style to one side.
If you want a more defined lasting style, use a product with a gel consistency, however I was looking for a fuller “frizzy” look so I used my regular curl defining cream followed by my hydration/definition method: oil, leave- in and curl defining cream.
I started with a co-wash using Dove Quench absolute conditioner (co-wash and detangled), sealed with my oil mix, soften my hair with Dove Quench absolute Creme Serum and define with Design Essentials Deep Moisture Milk Souffle With Sunflower & Shea. Let your twists dry over night and make sure that they are completely dry, rub a few drops of oil between your hands before untwisting them to avoid frizz. Add a little bit of gel to tame those edges. If you want to make sure that your style stays to the side all day, you may use some bobby pins, but I prefer hair combs, if you use one that matches your hair color they are almost unpredictable.
Extra tip!! Do not -repeat – Do not untwist your twists if they are not completely dry.
