I’m a loved wife, a blessed mother of four, an awesome graphic designer, a happy home maker, a cook enthusiast, a wannabe home decorator, a fashion & shoe junkie, a newbie urban farmer and a huge Jesus freak.
I own & operate a design studio & small print shop in my home. I specialize in event stationery & paper gifts as well as branding small businesses. I’m in the processes of redesigning my website & it will launch in February of next year with a brand new collection of invitations & paper products. I’m really excited about launching my Celebrate Curly line of paper goods. When did you decide to go natural & why?
Unlike many women who had their hair relaxed by their mother at a young age, my mother loved my hair. She always said to me that I had the most beautiful kind of hair because it was so versatile. But, growing up with a light skinned mother & sister that both had “good hair”, I would look in the mirror and only see ugly. I remember hating the way my hair would create waves when I tried to brush it flat in a ponytail & that fact that it refused to lie flat. At the age of 15 I got my first relaxer and I felt like the world had finally smiled at me. My hair was long, straight & healthy. That lasted like two months. I noticed I didn’t get the same results when it was time for my touch up. I relaxed my hair for 7 years & even though I didn’t experience a lot of damage, my hair was very weak & always smelled like relaxer. I HATED THAT.
When I was 21, a friend who always had long straight hair, decided to cut it very short & stop blow drying it for the summer. I was so in love with her curly fro. I decided to let my roots come in to see what my natural hair looked like. I liked it. I started to transition that summer in July & Big Chopped in December 2003.

All my life I wanted the sort of hair that was wash & go. That I didn’t have to comb & that gave me freedom to just be without having to manipulate it. I always thought I could only achieve that through straight hair. I was so wrong, curly hair is sooooo freeing. I no longer have to worry about getting my hair messed up. The bigger my fro, the more I like it. My hair is a perfect compliment to my personality & I thank God everyday for giving it to me.
What is your hair regimen?
I don’t really have a regimen that is set in stone. I listen to my hair & give it what it needs. I try to use homemade all natural products as much as possible because any drop of chemical in my hair really messes up my curls. They are prone to serious dryness & I have to really pay attention to make sure that they are hydrated & moisturized.
I use Daily Curlz Essential Oils as a smoothing & shining balm every other day & I co wash with coconut milk about every 3 to 4 days depending on the needs of my hair. I make flax seed gel at home & it is amazing.
When my hair needs a break I split it in the middle and French braid it.
I have two daughters. One with dryer & tighter curls than mine, and the other with softer, looser curls than mine. I adjust my regimen to fit their curly needs.
As far as bought products, I really like the DevaCurl line & Kinky Curly.

Soy amada esposa, madre bendita de cuatro , diseñadora gráfica, un ama de casa feliz, una entusiasta de la cocina, una aspirante a decorador, una adicta a la moda y a los zapatos, una agricultora urbana novata y loca creyente de Jesús.
Tengo y opero un estudio de diseño y pequeña imprenta en mi casa. Me especializo en papelería y, así como en pequeñas empresas. Estoy en el proceso de rediseño de mi sitio web y se pondrá en marcha en febrero del próximo año con una nueva colección de invitaciones y productos de papel. Estoy muy emocionado con el lanzamiento de mi línea celebrando el pelo rizado en productos de papel.
¿Cuándo decidiste ir natural y por qué?
A diferencia de muchas mujeres que su madre les aliso el pelo a una temprana edad, mi madre le encantaba mi pelo. Ella siempre me decía que yo tenía la más hermosa cabellera porque era muy versátil. Sin embargo, al crecer con una madre de piel clara y hermana que ambos habían “pelo bueno”, me miraba en el espejo y sólo veía feo. Recuerdo que odiaba la forma en que mi pelo se les creaban ondas cuando trataba de peinarlo en una cola y el hecho que se negaba a poner lacio. A la edad de 15 tuve mi primer alisado y me sentí como si el mundo finalmente me sonrió. Mi pelo era largo, recto y sano. Eso duró como dos meses. Me di cuenta de que no podia obtener los mismos resultados cuando llegó el momento de mi retoque. Me relajé el pelo por 7 años y aunque no sufrió mucho daño, mi cabello era muy débil y siempre olía como desrizado. Yo odiaba eso.
Cuando tenía 21 años, una amiga que siempre tenía el pelo largo y liso, decidió cortarlo muy corto y dejar el calor durante el verano. Yo estaba tan enamorada de su pelo rizado. Decidí dejar que mis raíces parecíeran. A mí me gustó. Empecé a hacer la transición en ese verano en julio y el gran corte en diciembre del 2003.
Toda mi vida yo quería que el tipo de pelo que se lava y listo.,Que yo no tendria que peinar y el tener la libertad de hacerlo sin tener que manipularlo. Yo siempre pensé que sólo podía lograr eso con el pelo lacio. Yo estaba tan mal, el pelo rizado es liberación total. No tengo que preocuparme de que mi pelo este desordenado. Mientras mas grande, más me gusta. Mi cabello es un complemento perfecto para mi personalidad y le agradezco a Dios todos los días por tenerlo.
¿Cuál es su régimen de cabello?
Yo realmente no tengo un régimen estricto. Escucho a mi cabello y le doy lo que necesita. Trato de usar todos los productos naturales hechos en casa tanto como sea posible, ya que cualquier gota de químicos en el cabello realmente estropea mis rizos. Son propensos a secarse y tengo que prestar atención para asegurarse de que estén hidratados y humectados.
Yo uso diario Aceites Esenciales DailyCurlz como un bálsamo para suavizar y dar brillo cada dos días y co -lavado con leche de coco cada 3 a 4 días dependiendo de las necesidades de mi cabello. Puedo hacer gel de semilla de linaza en la casa y es increíble.
Cuando el cabello necesita un descanso lo divido en el el medio y me hago una trenza francés.
Tengo dos hijas. Una con el pelo mas rizado y seco que el mio y la otra con unas ondas mas suaves. Ajusto mi régimen para satisfacer sus necesidades individuales.
