One of my favorite words when talking about Christmas is joy. There is something about that word that defines me like no other, especially during Christmas time. The reason is simple; it reminds me so much of Dominican Republic where you can feel the joy of Christmas starting at the end of October, or even earlier. I know that may sound crazy when you think about it, but there it all made sense and we could really enjoy the joy of Christmas for even longer. Joy is with me all the time, I may postpone my Christmas decorations a few days, but I feel the joy of Christmas really early.

This year, while I was shopping at my local retailer, I started to smell the joy of Christmas while passing by a beautiful display with all the new Glade’s Winter Collection. I don’t know how many of you know that I know how to sew, but it’s a skill my grandmother taught me. She pretty much taught me everything I know about sewing, cooking, and what being a good housewife was all about back in the days. I figured this is the time to teach my daughters some of that. We went to the craft store and with just a few dollars we got our crafting materials to make Christmas pillows to give as a present to their teachers. This is also a great craft to do after the holidays to re-use your Christmas tree. Our inspiration was the Glade® Winter Collection scent Be at Peace™ Balsam Fir & Juniper.

DIY Balsam Fir Pillow, You will need:
• 2 pieces of your desired size square linen (mine are about 8″)
• 1 pound of balsam fir
• Fabric paint.
• Paint brush
• Sewing machine
• Needle and thread

1. I you are using fresh balsam fir (a Christmas tree) allow it to dry out for a couple of days outside to assure that it doesn’t keep any moisture, pull the needles off.
2. Cut two pieces of cloth of your desired size and shape for your balsam pillow sachet.
3. Sew around the balsam pillow leaving two inches open for filling.
4. Turn the pillow right side out.
5. Add a piece of cardboard inside to avoid the paint marking the other side.
6. Place your stencil and paint over it, let it completely dry before the next step.
7. Pour the balsam fir into your pillow sachet.
8. Add stuffing to completely fill your pillow if you wish, or just fill it up with balsam fir.
9. Close the two inch opening with a needle and thread
10. Feel the joy of Christmas all year round.

This pillow is a great way to help spread holiday cheer and alegría, and is an even better gift when paired with any of the Glade Winter Collection scents. Una de mis palabra favoritas durante la navidad es alegría, hay algo en esta palabra que me recuerda mucho mi hermosa isla Republica Dominicana. Será porque siempre se a dicho que los Dominicanos somos pura alegría o simplemente porque alla la alegría de la navidad se vive desde muy temprano en el mes de Octubre. Sé que para algunos puede parecer una locura, pero cuando estás allá, esa magia y esa alegría te contagia. La alegría está conmigo todo el tiempo, aunque aquí en los Estados Unidos puede que no comience con mi decoración de navidad tan temprano, pero una cosa si es seguro, la alegría de la navidad me llega bien temprano. Este año, mientras andaba de compras, me llego un olor a navidad pasando por un bello escaparate de la colección de Navidad Glade’s Winter Collection. No se si ustedes sabrán que desde muy joven se coser, esto es algo que aprendí en parte por mi abuela que era una excelente costurera y me paso este oficio así como a cocinar y todas las cosas que según ella una buena mujer tenía que saber. Pensé que era el momento de enseñar a mis hija algo de eso. Fuimos a la tienda de manualidades y con unos pocos dólares conseguimos los materiales para hacer unas almohadillas para regalar a sus maestras. Esta almohada es excelente para reciclar tu árbol de navidad natural luego de las fiestas. Nuestra inspiración fue el aroma Glade® Winter Collection scent Be at Peace™ Balsam Fir & Juniper. Almohada de árbol de Navidad, necesitarás:

• 2 piezas de tela del tamaño de tu elección (las mias son de aproximadamente 8″
• 1 libra de abeto balsámico (árbol de navidad)
• Pintura de tela.
• Brocha
• Máquina de coser
• Aguja e hilo.

1. Manos a la obra. Si vas a usar un árbol de navidad fresco, asegurate de ponerlo al sol por varios días para evitar que progrese humedad. Separa las ramitas (puntas).
2. Corta dos piezas de tela del tamaño y forma deseada.
3. Cose alrededor de la almohada, dejando dos pulgadas abierto para el llenado.
4. Voltea la almohada al derecho.
5. Pon una pieza de carton en el medio para evitar que la pintura marque el otro lado.
6. Coloca el patrón en medio de la almohada y pasa la pintura sobre ella, remover el patron y dejar que la pintura seque completamente antes del siguiente paso.
7. Rellena la almohada con las ramitas del árbol de navidad.
8. Añade relleno para almohadas si así lo deseas mezclado con las ramitas de árbol de navidad.
9. Cierra las dos pulgadas de apertura con una aguja e hilo.
10. Y listo para regalar la alegria de la navidad hechas con tu propia mano.
