A bilingual education was a priority in my household back in Dominican Republic, my mom made sure of that, me and my brothers spoke two languages since I can remember, and when I had my kids I couldn’t do it any other way.  In Dominican Republic, I had to make extra work with the English language so my daughters have the practice they need and here in the US it’s basically the same but with the spanish language. I must say that I am very tough with my kids and strict about speaking spanish in the house, it is a constant struggle but the satisfaction is as big, and I know they will thank me some day soon.

Una educación bilingüe era una prioridad cuando era una niña en República Dominicana, mi mamá se aseguró de eso, mis hermanos y yo hablamos dos idiomas desde que tengo memoria, y cuando tuve a mis hijas, yo no podía hacerlo de otra manera. En República Dominicana tuve que hacer trabajo extra con el idioma inglés, para asegurarme que tuvieran la practica necesaria y aquí en los Estados Unidos es básicamente lo mismo pero con el idioma español. Esta demás decirles que es un trabajo arduo y hay que ser estrictos en cuanto a las reglas de hablar español en la casa, es una lucha constante, pero la satisfacción es igual de grande, y sé que me lo agradecerán algún día.
