6 Things I didn’t know about Invisalign

Hola chicas, yes, I finally have my Invisalign which actually took a little longer because I had to remove my wisdom teeth and then heal/recover and since that was not exactly my way of having fun, it took a little while for me to decide and actually do it. At the end, it was a less painful than I thought. Anyways, since I have had my aligners for 2 weeks, I wanted to share with you 6 things I didn’t know about Invisalign and that you should know before taking the decision to rock beautiful teeth and smile.
- Invisalign is not painless: it is definitely not compared with the pain I felt when I had metal braces, but do expect pain at least the first few days (3 days for me). And let’s face it, you have a foreign object in your mouth to help you straighten your teeth, obviously you feel discomfort at first, but after a few days the discomfort disappears.
- Say adios to snacking and eating at unwanted hours (I am not complaining): I always wanted to be be more organized about my eating and snacking, well, I have for the past 2 weeks. You will have to plan your meals in order to maximize the time you use your Invisalign and this is because in order to have a good oral hygiene, you have to brush your teeth every time you eat, so it is a good idea to plan your meals around that or you will be spending most of your time removing your aligners-eating-brushing-and putting them back on.
- Expect to have the best oral hygiene you ever had before, I swear I have never ever brushed and cleaned my teeth more than now. You need to brush your teeth every time you eat a meal or snack, so the food doesn’t stay in your mouth longer than it needs to. Invest in a few toothbrushes, specially travel ones if you spend long hours out of your house.
- You have to use them, you can remove the aligners anytime you want, your doctor won’t be there telling you to wear them, so you have to be very mindful about your goals because there is no way around it, you have to use your Invisalign. For me that is 22 hours a day, that is why I told you before that you have to be very organized with your meals.
- Most people won’t notice it, as you can see in the picture above, Invisalign is almost unnoticeable to most people, but at first you make noises, talk weird, and make gestures that you probably didn’t before. For me, it just made a lot more sense to tell people, specially the first few days that I happened to have a few events and I didn’t want people to think that I was weird like that, lol.
- Invisalign can treat most orthodontic issues; under bites, gaps, crooked teeth,etc.. But the only way to know if Invisalign is right for you, is by taking the Invisalign’s Smile Assessment, find a qualifying doctor near you here.
I am a member of the Invisalign Mom Advisory Board and I have received complimentary treatment from the makers of Invisalign clear aligner, full disclosure: http://shout.lt/ggGP
